Box Score The University of Minnesota Duluth suffered its first home setback of the season, falling to the University of Mary by a 68-76 final at Romano Gym on Friday night.
The Bulldogs (5-3, 2-2 NSIC) fall back to .500 in conference play as the Marauders (5-2, 3-1 NSIC) scored the game's first seven points and held steady the rest of the first half, maintaing a 40-29 lead at the half. UMD nibbled away at the lead early in the half, cutting it to five before the clock ticked down to 15 minutes. Junior guard
Danielle Flood tied it was a three-pointer just before the midpoint of the half, but U-Mary scored nine of the next 11 points to once again pull away. Again, the Bulldogs battled to pull within one with two minutes to go, but the early deficit proved fatal as the Marauders made good on their free throws to put the game on ice.
NSIC Player of the Week
Hannah Rutten continued her strong play with 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead UMD's offense. Flood finished with a team-high 17 points, going three-of-six from beyond the arch. Junior forward
Jessica Newman also reached double digits with 11. The Bulldogs shot 40.3 percent on the night, a margin just barely eclipsed by U-Mary's 41.4 percent mark. UMD made just 12-of-18 free throws while the Marauders got to the line 31 times, scoring on 24 of those chances.
UMD will look to bounce back as they continue NSIC play at home tomorrow afternoon, hosting Minot State University in game one of the men's/women's doubleheader with opening tip set for 4:00 p.m.
