Box Score Every Bulldog who saw the court for the University of Minnesota Duluth had a basket on Saturday night as UMD made a clean sweep of the weekend, downing Minot State University by an 81-74 final.
The Bulldogs (4-5, 2-3 NSIC) never trailed as they pulled a game within .500 on the year and in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference thanks to a steady offense. UMD accounted for just eight turnovers as a squad collecting six steals as Minot State (5-4, 1-4 NSIC) turned the ball over 12 times. The usual suspects - seniors
Peter Crawford and
Jordan Reetz and junior
Reece Zoelle - all had strong nights, with Zoelle and Crawford leading the way for the Bulldogs with 17 points each. Reetz had 16, along with five rebounds and five assists, but the young supporting cast came ot life, with five more players adding six or more points on the night.
Freshman
Charles Benson had a team-high six boards and seven points as he and classmate
Lane Olson (six points, five rebounds) dealt with Minot State's near-seven-footer Lazar Boskovic. Junior guard
Junior Coleman had eight points and a pair of steals while freshman guards
Justin Byrd and
Garrison Gillard combined for ten points, four assists, three rebounds. MSU guard Samuel Johnson had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the way for MSU, while Boskovic led all players with nine boards.
UMD will have a chance at revenge as the Bulldogs close the 2013 portion of their schedule next weekend against St. Cloud State. The Huskies knocked off UMD 86-65 when the teams met on Nov. 30. Opening tip of the rematch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Saturday following the women's contest.
