The University of Minnesota Duluth closed out the home portion of its 2013 tennis schedule by downing the University of Minnesota-Crookston 5-4 on Friday before falling to both unbeaten Augustana College (9-0) and perennial NCAA Division III regional power Gustavus Adolphus College (7-2) the following day in Virginia, Minn.
In the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match with Minnesota-Crookston, the Bulldogs prevailed in four of the six singles events, getting wins from sophomore Alyssa Brunelli (No. 1), freshman Katie Lincoln (No. 4), junior Kelsey Cunningham (No. 5) and freshman Delaney Dobbs (No. 6). Cunningham and Lincoln were also victorious at No. 3 singles. Lincoln and Cunningham, as well as the doubles tandem of Dobbs and freshman Bailey Kolles accounted for the two UMD wins against Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday.
Through the opening eight matches of the year, Lincoln sports the best singles record among Bulldogs at an even 4-4 and has teammed with Cunninghma to produce that same mark in doubles.
Next up for the Bulldogs (2-6 overall and 2-4 in the NSIC) is an NSIC engagement with Upper Iowa University on March 9 in Owatonna, Minn.
