OUELLETTE PLAYS IN 200TH GAME WITH TEAM CANADA

Superwoman had a cape all right in SBJ Arena in Ottawa, Canada Friday night, and her name was Caroline Ouellette.

Former University of Minnesota Duluth All-American Ouellette hit the ice for her 200th game with Team Canada in a 8-0 rout of Finland in the 2013 IIHF World Championship in front of the largest women's hockey crowd ever of 18,013.  Ouellette becomes only the third Canadian women's player to have accrued over 200 games in her international career.

"I have been on the team since 1998 and I have not missed many games over the years," said Ouellette.  "I feel so lucky and privileged to be that long on the national team and it has been an incredible journey."

With the primary assist on Canada's very first goal of the game against Finland 14:25 into the first period, Canada's assistant captain reminded everyone that she is still very relevant to the world's most dominant team over the past decade.

Ouellette was not the only former Bulldog tallying points for Canada, with Haley Irwin turning in two assists in the skate.  Irwin now has compiled the eighth most points in the tournament with five in three skates, including a goal and four assists.

In other Worlds action, Russia stayed on top of Group B with a 4-0 win over Sweden.  Current Bulldog senior Aleksandra Vafina netted Russia's third goal at 10:59 of the second period, while UMD alum Iya Gavrilova had the first assist on Russia's first goal 6:41 into the contest.

Finland and Germany will face off tomorrow in the quarterfinal round, along with Russia and Switzerland.  Canada and the USA will await the winners of those games in the semifinals on Monday.
