Box Score The University of Minnesota Duluth will have to settle for a season split against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North division rival Minot State University as the home team downed the Bulldogs 84-66 in Minot on Friday night.
UMD (9-6, 6-5 NSIC) got a solid opening-half effort from junior guard
Jessica Newman, who was 3-of-5 from three-point range with 13 points in the first. The Bulldogs opened an early lead but saw the Beavers battle back, thanks in large part to 17 first-half points by Carly Boag. Minot State (12-3, 8-3 NSIC), who received votes in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll, had 14 defensive rebounds in the opening frame, limiting UMD's second chances but also made good on their own first opportunities, shooting 57.1 percent in the first half.
Minot's Christina Boag paired up with her sister in the second half as the two forwards helped the Beavers extend their lead, combining for 39 points and 18 rebounds on the night to effort Minot State to the victory. UMD finished with a strong showing from its pair of siblings as senior forward
Katrina Newman added 15 points to her sister's team-high 17 on the night.
Jessica Newman also led the Bulldogs with five rebounds.
UMD stops off in Bismarck, N.D. tomorrow afternoon for a rematch with the University of Mary (8-6, 6-5 NSIC). Opening tip is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
