COLD SHOOTING FREEZES OUT BULLDOGS AGAINST U-MARY

Hannah Rutten (40) had 18 points, but the Bulldogs fell short against U-Mary.
Box Score The University of Minnesota Duluth's shooting went cold just as the University of Mary heated up and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival knocked off the Bulldogs 74-65 in Bismarck, N.D. on Saturday afternoon.

UMD (9-7, 6-6 NSIC) built up an early lead in the first half, pulling to eight points up with about 15 minutes in the books, but U-Mary (9-6, 7-5 NSIC) battled back to tie it up just before the end of the half, and the Marauders took a two-point lead to the locker room thanks to a McKenzie Foster three with in the final seconds. Foster finished with 18 points to lead the Marauders.

After trading points in the early part of the second half, the Marauders seemed unable to miss a jumpshot and opened a 12-point lead. The Bulldogs scratched back into it, pulling within five, but U-Mary was able to make its free throws down the stretch and held off UMD in the closing seconds.

Senior center Hannah Rutten nearly missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. She was nearly perfect, 9-of-10 from the charity stripe, but junior guard Danielle Flood led the way for UMD with 19 points on the night, along with 3 assists, on 6-of-14 shooting. The Bulldogs finished shooting just 31.0 percent on the night with U-Mary hauling in 30 defensive boards to limit UMD's second chances. The Marauders shot 51.2 percent, including 8-of-15 beyond the arc, to knock off the Bulldogs.

UMD returns to Romano Gym to open a two-week homestand next weekend, beginning with Minnesota State University-Moorhead next Friday. Opening tip is set for 6:00 p.m.
