Four University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs left the University of St. Thomas Invitational Friday with an individual championship in tow and one of those --
Kayla Wiltrout -- did so with a NCAA Division II provisional-qualifying performance.
The sophomore from Rochester, Minn., went 3.58 meters to claim the top prize in the pole vault. She was joined in the winner's circle by junior
Molly George (200-meter dash; 26.67), junior
Tatum Garrity (600-meter run; 1:41.16) and freshman
Brittany Platt (1,000-meter run; 3:03.65). Platt finished just ahead of senior
Jacque Thaemert (2nd place; 3:04.08) while capturing the first title of her young track career. Other Top Three finishes were recorded by juniors
Paige Maxwell (second place in the 600-meter run; 1:42.34),
Amelia Maher (second in the 400-meter dash; 59.80),
Jennifer Hitchcock (third in the weight throw; 15.40 meters) and
Erin Pangerl (third in the 60-meter dash; 7.98) and freshman Maddison Sachs (third in the 800-meter run; 2:25.52).
Next Friday and Saturday (Jan. 31-Feb. 1), a select number of Bulldogs will compete in the Minnesota State University Open and Pentathlon in Mankato, Minn., with the others heading over to Superior, Wis., for the Blizzard Open on Saturday.
