Box Score Kyle Osterberg faced his former team for the first time Friday night and the freshman left winger made it quite a memorable reunion.
Osterberg scored once and assisted on two other goals -- all in the second period -- as the University of Minnesota Duluth ushered in 2014 with a 7-0 exhibition game victory over the U.S. National Under-18 Team at AMSOIL Arena. Seven different Bulldogs picked up a goal while senior
Aaron Crandall (nine saves), junior
Alex Fons (six) and sophomore
Matt McNeely (four), another U.S. Under-18 product, combined for the shutout while logging one period of crease time each.
UMD, in action for the first time since Dec. 14, broke a 0-0 deadlock by scoring four times in the second period before tacking on three more goals in the final 20 minutes of play.
"We got off to a slow start, but then really turned it on in that second period," said Osterberg, a member of the U.S. National Under-18 Team in 2011-12. "It was blast for me and our team to play against these guys. We certainly didn't take them lightly."
