HOT FROM THREE, AUGUSTANA TAKES DOWN UMD AT HOME

Box Score Augustana College could not be stopped from beyond the arc and took down the University of Minnesota Duluth 82-62 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play at Romano Gym on Friday night.

UMD (7-12, 5-10 NSIC) stumbled out of the blocks, falling behind early as Augustana (13-8, 10-5 NSIC) turned a 6-6 tie to an 18-6 lead. As the Bulldogs started to sink some shots, the Vikings' Ben Shellim and Ethan Guske took over, combining for 7-of-9 from three-point range as Augustana opened a 45-26 halftime lead. Altogether, the Vikings shot 56.0 percent in the opening frame while UMD settled for just 30.0 percent, with seniors Peter Crawford and Jordan Reetz accounting for 18 of the team's 26 points.

The second half saw a nearly-even affair with Augustana edging the Bulldogs 37-36. Crawford would go 4-for-4 from the floor to finish with a team-high 18 points on the night. While Reetz added three to finish with 12 on the night, the Bulldogs got some sound efforts from unfamiliar faces in the latter half: freshman Jake Wilson tossed in six while hauling in a pair of boards, junior forward Kristofer Jackson had a more proper return to the line-up with eight points, four rebounds, and a pair of blocks.

UMD shot 37.3 percent for the game while Augustana cooled, a bit, to shoot 49.1 perrcent. Junior Reece Zoelle led the Bulldogs with eight boards while Viking big man Daniel Jansen had a game-high 10, with Augie out-rebounding UMD 40-34 on the night.

The UMD men are back in action tomorrow night as they play host to Wayne State College (8-11, 5-10 NSIC), who fell 90-63 at St. Cloud State earlier this evening. The Wildcats and Bulldogs will both look for a rebound win with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. tomorrow night.
