Box Score Life on the road has suited the University of Minnesota Duluth just fine over the last couple of months. The surging Bulldogs haven't lost a game away from home since Nov. 22 and Friday night in Kalamazoo, Mich., they extended their road unbeaten streak to six games by reeling off three unanswered third-period goals en route to a 5-2 National Collegiate Hockey Conference victory over 20th-ranked Western Michigan University.
Junior right winger
Justin Crandall and rookie left winger
Kyle Osterberg each scored twice and assisted on two other goals for the Bulldogs, who improved to 11-9-3 overall and 6-6-1-1 in the NCHC. That puts them in a tie for fifth place with Western Michgan, which fell for the first time in its last seven games (5-1-1) while dropping to 12-9-4 on the year. The four-point nights by Crandall and Osterberg matched a 2013-14 UMD high that Crandall set at the University of Minnesota on Nov. 24 -- the start of the Bulldogs' current road unbeaten run.
UMD, which never trailed once the entire evening, also got goal from sophomore center
Tony Cameranesi and a 17-save performance from senior goaltender
Aaron Crandall. Crandall has now made a career-high eight straight starts and is 5-1-2 during that stretch. Both clubs went into the first (1-1) and second intermissions (2-2) deadlock and combined to go 2-for-15 on the power play (UMD cashed in on one of its eight chances with the man advantage).
The Bulldogs will go after their second consecutive NCHC road sweep Saturday night when they close out the two game set with the Broncos in Kalamazoo, Mich.
