SWEEP MARY: BULLDOGS DOMINANT ON HOMECOMING FRIDAY

The University of Minnesota Duluth allowed just 26 points in a three-set sweep of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival the University of Mary at Romano Gym on Friday night.

No. 2 UMD (19-1, 12-0 NSIC) needed a tidy 58 minutes to keep U-Mary (3-18, 0-12 NSIC) winless in league play.

HIGHLIGHTS
• All 16 Bulldogs found their way to the stat sheet, including all four freshmen: defensive specialist Kelly Madison served and had a dig, outside hitter Megan Norby and middle blocker Allison Olley each knocked down a kill on two swings, and setter Sarah Heesacker served and collected an assist.
• Three Bulldogs hit double figures offensively, with junior outside hitter Mariah Scharf leading the way with 13 kills. Senior right side Maddy Siroin had 12, and sophomore middle blocker Sydnie Mauch added 10. Junior setter Ashley Hinsch had a pair of kills, four service aces, four digs, and 37 assists on the night. Her 37 assists tied her for seventh all-time in a UMD program history with 3,513 for her career.
• U-Mary knocked down six blocks on the night, compared to just three for UMD, but the Bulldogs had 48 digs between 10 players, led by senior libero Julie Rainey's 20.

The Bulldogs opened the match on a 9-0 streak and ended up winning the opening set 25-5 - the most dominant set victory for the Bulldogs since UMD defeated the same U-Mary team 24-3 on Nov. 10, 2011 en route to a similar three-set sweep. In the second set, UMD sided out at 100% - scoring a point on all eight of U-Mary's service attempts. The third set proved a bit more competitive with the score tied as late as 7-7 before the Bulldogs knocked 14 of the next 18 points and then four straight to close the match on a kill by sophomore outside hitter Taylor Wissbroecker.

The Marauders collected 13 kills as a team, led by senior outside hitter Lauren Boldt's four. Sophomore libero Alex Brown had just eight digs and sophomore setter Janell Finkbeiner collected nine assists. Senior middle blocker Allison Adams played part in four blocks for U-Mary.
