Official Proclamation (PDF)Governor's Office AnnouncementGovernor Mark Dayton has officially procalimed Tuesday, February 11, 2014 as "Bob McDonald Day" in the State of Minnesota.
McDonald,
a University of Minnesota Duluth basketball alumnus and Hall of Famer, is in his 53rd season coaching the Chisholm High School Bluestreaks and 59th overall. On Dec. 26, 2013, Coach McDonald earned career victory number 1,000 and became the only high school coach in the state of Minnesota and just one of 13 coaches in the nation to reach that milestone.
From the official release: "Bob McDonald made a commitment to invest in children and young adults through the Chisholm High School basketball and Chisholm youth Saturday morning basketball programs. In these programs, Bob teaches more than the fundamentals of basketball, he instills the values of hard work, practice, and teamwork. He wants his players to grow up to be fine young men and good contributors to society, and is well known for his expectations: he expects his players to be well-groomed, well-behaved, and respectful, and they are."
Before the Bulldogs' game on Feb. 1, 2014, the UMD head coach
Matt Bowen and graduate assistant
Bryce Tesdahl honored McDonald with a plaque commemorating the event. Tesdahl, McDonald's grandson, is continuing the family's coaching tradition.
