BULLDOGS SIT SIXTH AS DAY ONE OF NSIC TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS COMES TO A CLOSE

The University of Minnesota Duluth holds down sixth place through seven events at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Track and Field Championships, which concluded its first day of competition Friday in Bemidji, Minn. Defending champion Minnesota State University-Mankato sat atop the leader board with 63 points followed by the University of Sioux Falls (47.50), Augustana College (35), the University of Mary (29), St. Cloud State University (25), UMD (24) and Concordia University-St. Paul (22.50)

Providing points for the Bulldogs Friday were senior Cole Toepfer (2nd place; 8:34.14) and junior Dan Nielsen (6th; 8:39.64) in the 3,000-meter run, Mark Emlaw in the long jump (5th; 6.77 meters) and fellow sophomore Appo Agbamu in the shot put (6th; 15.43 meters).  In addition, the distance medley relay team of sophomore Drew Johnson, junior Phil d'Entremont, junior Chris Wilson and sophomore Joey Erickson finished third.

The second, and final, day of the NSIC Track and Field Championships gets underway Saturday at 10 a.m.
