The University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's track and field days wrapped up the third and final day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships inside Malosky Stadium in Duluth, Minn. The Bulldog men finished 10th in the meet, while the women finished up in eighth overall.
Â
The highlight of the day came from UMD's men's 4x100 relay team, who won the event for the first time since 2000 – before any of the relay team members were born. The relay was made up of Brock Unger, Billy Auvin, Brayden Brakke and Brady Johnson, and their time of 40.93 also was the 69th fastest in NCAA Division II this season and a season best for the quartet.
Â
The Bulldog men's relay success also carried over to the 4x400, who placed second with the 94th fastest time in NCAA DII with a time of 3:16:90. Johnson, Austin Kehr, Auvin and Cade Lisson were the sprinters who carried the effort to the podium – the second-straight year UMD has made it to the podium in the event.
Â
Senior jumper Will Heydt earned a second place spot in the triple jump with a jump of 14.54m, and finished ninth in the long jump with a season-best jump of 7.03m.
Â
Freshman Emily Beaham was stellar in her NSIC Championship debut, finishing third with a Division II 47th fastest time of 1:01.14 – also a personal best for the rookie.Sophomore Avary Fitzpatrick finished in fifth with the 52nd fastest time in the NCAA – a 1:01.14
Â
Notable times came from Lilan Wanzek in the 100m hurdles (sixth, 66th NCAA DII time this season), while Ellie Hanowski ran a personal best in the 1,500m, a 4:41.98 – good for fifth place on the day.
Â
The meet ended with another Bulldog honor – Kate Fitzgerald earned the NSIC Elite 18 Award for women's outdoor track & field Saturday. Fitzgerald was presented the award following the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. This marks Fitzgerald's second NSIC Elite 18 Award -- she also earned the honor at the 2024-25 indoor championships.Â
