BULLDOGS COMPLETE PAYBACK SWEEP WITH WIN OVER MSU-MOORHEAD

Box Score The University of Minnesota Duluth completed a weekend sweep of its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division foes on Saturday night, earning a bit of revenge against Minnesota State University-Moorhead for a close defeat earlier this season by defeating the Dragons 70-67 in Moorhead.

A night after throwing down 42 for UMD (10-12, 8-10 NSIC), junior guard Reece Zoelle had the Bulldogs' first eight points of the night. The road team opened up an eight-point lead on MSU-Moorhead (16-6, 12-6 NSIC) at the midpoint of the first half and held on to take a 34-29 edge to the locker room.

The Dragons outscored UMD 16-8 out of the break, but the Bulldogs came back with a 8-2 run to re-take the lead at 50-47. The two teams were exactly even the rest of the way with UMD getting a late free-throw from junior forward Kristofer Jackson to put the game on ice. The Bulldogs were able to hold MSU-Moorhead to just a 34.4 percent scoring average while UMD shot 47.3 percent on the night.

Zoelle would finish with a double-double, 15 points and 11 rebounds, for the Bulldogs. Senior guard Peter Crawford led the Bulldogs with 18 points including 9-of-9 from the charity stripe to finish the weekend 24-of-25 on free throws. Junior guard Junior Coleman had 15 points including a trio of threes. Malik Wood led the way for Moorhead with 17 points.

UMD is back on the road next weekend against with a pair of interdivisional match-ups against the NSIC South. The Bulldogs tip off with Upper Iowa on Friday night at 8:00 p.m., following the women's contest.
