After falling just short in the series opener, the University of Minnesota Duluth offense exploded for a 16-6 victory in game two of a four-game set with Saint Michael's (Vt.) College on Sunday afternoon in Winter Haven, Fla. at the RussMattCentral Florida Invite.

UMD (2-5) dropped game one by a 6-5 to the Purple Knights (1-1). The Bulldogs scored the game's first five runs for Jimmy Heck, who took his first turn on the mound of 2014, but SMC scored three unearned runs to knock Heck (0-1) out of the game after just 3.2 innings pitched. He had a pair of strikeouts, one walk, and two hit batters. The highlight of the game for the Bulldogs offensively was Alex Wojciechowski's two-run triple in the third inning.

UMD knocked around Saint Michaels' pitching in game two with 14 runs in the first three innings, including eight in the first. Wojciechowski got the scoring started with a double before freshman designated hitter Grant Farley cleared the bases with a triple. Second baseman Jake Steinbach doubled in a run before Kyle Comer came up for his second time in the inning and launched a first-inning home run for the second straight day.

Senior hurler Chris Couillard (1-0) served as the beneficiary of the runs, tossing four innings alllowing five runs, all earned. Freshman Colton Sinning took the ball for the final three innings to earn his first career save, striking out three batters.

Unsurprisingly, Wojciechowski finished with the strongest day, going 5-for-8 with a double, two triples. four RBIs, and four runs scored.  Farley finished game two 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored while also earning a pinch-hit walk in game one. Nine extra-base hits in game two marked a season-high for the Bulldogs.

The two teams will finish their four-game set with another doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at a new venue, Lake Myrtle Park Field #2 in Auburndale, Fla. Opening pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. CT.
