Seeking redemption after failing to manufacture runs in key spots yesterday, the offensive production by the University of Minnesota Duluth was more than enough to outlast Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foe Southwest Minnesota State University in the double header matchup in Marshall, Minn. this afternoon. The Bulldogs, who left 18 runners on base Sunday, accounted for 17 runs on 24 hits including seven extra base tallies to tame the Mustangs 10-3 and 7-4 for their first road sweep of the 2014 campaign. UMD (17-14 overall) pushed their league record back to the .500-mark after dipping below it for the first time since Apr. 6, 2011.

Of the 24 hits, seven Bulldogs collected at least two. Senior outfielder Megan Mullen continued to cash in on her opportunities at the plate, collecting three hits and her second straight day with a homer. Mullen, who has risen her batting average 63 points to .337 in the past two days, became a member of the 100-RBI club for her career when she smacked her two-run homer down left field line in the seventh inning of game two. Sophomore catcher Ashley Lewis produced a three-hit outing in game one .

Sophomore pitcher Cayli Sadler led the club with five hits and drove in a team-high six runs. Sadler also knocked her first collegiate home run of her career, the eventual game-winner in the top of the fifth inning during the backend of the double dip. The Brooklyn Park Minn. native used that production to secure a pair of victories in the circle. Sadler (13-8) started both games and whipped up nine strikeouts in 12 innings of work. The right handed hurler ran into trouble in the rematch before retiring nine straight batter to capture the sweep.

UMD continued to wreck havoc on opposing pitchers to start games scoring seven times during the opening frame. The Bulldogs have a 40-19 advantage in the runs department and are 9-4 when scoring in the first inning. UMD nearly batted around the order in both games having eight batter bat in each game. Junior infielder Jordan Rice and Sadler singled in runs and Lewis scored on a wild pitch to open the double header. In game two, three straight batters drew walks with two outs for freshman outfielder Hailey Lundquist, who made Mustangs' pitcher Alex O'Connor pay by ripping a bases clearing double into center.

The Bulldogs will have an off-day tomorrow before hitting the road again Wednesday (Apr. 9) to Bemidji, Minn. for a pair of NSIC engagements against conference rival Bemidji State. Opening pitch of the two-game set is set for 1 p.m.
