Box Score The University of Minnesota Duluth was forced to battle in the second and third game, but took down the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in three sets at the Keweenaw Classic, hosted by Michigan Tech, on Friday evening in Houghton, Michigan.
No. 3 UMD (2-0) got a big showing from senior right-side hitter
Maddy Siroin to take down the Rangers (1-2) by scores of 25-13, 25-21, and 25-23.

• The Bulldogs hit just .190 on the night, down from .260 just a night ago, but still held UW-Parkside to a quiet .073 hitting percentage.

Maddy Siroin took control to start the match, scoring three of UMD's first five kills as the Bulldogs rebounded from an early 1-0 deficit to run the score to 5-3, and eventually 10-5 before a Ranger timeout broke a streak, only temporarily. UMD outscored UW-Parkside 15-10 the rest of the way, including 11-4 to close the set, to take an early 1-0 lead in the match. Junior
Mariah Scharf knocked down four kills to lead the way for UMD heading into the second game.
Siroin again gave the Bulldogs an early lead with the first kill of the second set, but UW-Parkside came back to take a 3-2 lead. The two teams went back-and-forth with tie scores of 14-all and 15-all before UMD went on another run to move to 20-15. The Rangers rallied back to pull within one at 21-10, but kills by Scharf and Siroin led the Bulldogs to a 25-21 second-set victory. Wisconsin-Parkside jumped to an early lead in the third set, leading by as many as four at 8-4 and 9-5, but UMD ran off eight straight points, and 10-of-11 scores to make it 15-10. Forcing a number of Bulldog attack errors, the Rangers knotted the score at 21, 22, and 23 before two more kills by Siroin finished off the Rangers for good.
Sophomore Rebecca Roembke finished with nine kills to lead the way for the Rangers. Freshman Megan Pakarek collected 22 assists on the night to go with a team-high five blocks. Libero Jessi Mainczyk had 11 digs to top UW-Parkside on the defensive end.
UP NEXTThe Bulldogs will play two tomorrow as they continue action at the Keweenaw Classic, taking on Lake Superior State University tomorrow afternoon before closing out tournament play against the hosts of Michigan Tech University tomorrow night. The first match is set for 3:00 p.m.
