NORTHERN MICHIGAN SLIPS BY UMD LATE THANKS TO FOURTH-QUARTER THREES

Northern Michigan University hit 10 three-point shots in the second half, but four in the fourth-quarter helped the Wildcats slip by the Univeristy of Minnesota Duluth 60-55 at the Lake State Classic in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on Saturday night.

UMD (0-2) trailed by one at the halftime break, but rallied with four three-pointers of its own in the third quarter to draw even with Northern Michigan (1-2). The Bulldogs shot 50.0 percent (8-of-16) in the fourth quarter but draw a single trip to the line in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats dropped a quartet of three's and made good on 6-of-8 from the free throw line to pull away late. Junior center Allyson Harris scored 10 of UMD's 17 fourth-quarter points, and first-year forward Emma Boehm hit a three-pointer to pull the Bulldogs within 58-55 with just 0:36 remaining on the clock, but Northern Michigan made good on a pair of free throws to hold off the Bulldogs.

Harris led all scorers with 19 points while Boehm added 10 and junior forward Kenzie Kane 11 for the Bulldogs. UMD shot just 37.0 percent for the game, and went to the line just four times after the first quarter, finishing 10-of-14 from the line. Northern Michigan shot 40.9 percent for the game (18-of-44) but eight of its 18 baskets were for three. The team also took 18 trips to the free throw line in the second half. NMU had three players in double figures.

Bulldog senior guard Taylor Dillinger scored six points and grabbed four rebounds, playing against her sister Sydney Dillinger on the Northern Michigan roster. The younger Dillinger grabbed three rebounds and finished 1-of-2 from the floor.
