Box Score No team was able to do it during the entire 2014-15 regular season, but the University of Denver found a way to get it done in the playoffs.
The Pioneers handed the University of Minnesota Duluth its first two-game sweep since last March, blanking the visiting Bulldogs 4-0 Saturday night to win the best-of-three National Collegiate Hockey Conference quarterfinal series, 2-0. No. 7 Denver will now move on to the NCHC Frozen Four tournament, which starts next Friday in Minneapolis, Minn., while No. 6 UMD must wait eight days before it learns of its NCAA Tournament fate (the Bulldogs are all but a lock to earn a berth in that 16-team event).
Denver, who rallied for three third-period goals in a 4-3 triumph Friday night, got all the scoring it would need with 22 second to go in the opening period when Trevor Moore picked up a loose puck behind the Bulldog net, carried it to the bottom of the right faceoff circle, whirled and fired a shot past UMD netminder
Kasimir Kaskisuo. The Pioneers (22-12-2 overall) tacked on two more goals in the second period and added an empty netter late in the third while, at the other end of the ice, Evan Cowley rejected all 26 shots UMD (20-15-3) sent his way. Kaskisuo (17-13-2), making his 32nd start in the past 34 games, made 28 saves.
The Bulldogs went 0-for-3 on the power play, but also held Denver scoreless on all four of their opportunities with the man advantage. Bulldog senior right winger
Adam Krause, who returned to the Bulldog lineup after sitting out a one-game suspension stemming from a knee major, racked up a game-high six shots in the loss.
