Junior forward
Kailey Beatt netted the third goal of her season and sophmore goalkeeper
Jordan Melby produced her first shutout of 2015 as the University of Minnesota Duluth edged out Minnesota State University Moorhead 1-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition on Saturday afternoon.
UMD (2-2-1, 1-0-1 NSIC) continued a string of tight matches with the one-score game, holding MSU-Moorhead (1-1-2, 1-1-0 NSIC) without a goal for the second time this season. The Dragons' offense had produced just two goals all year. Beatt's score came just 19:16 into the match on a free kick about 30 yards in front of the net. From there on out, it was a defensive struggle for both teams. The Bulldogs finished with 15 shots, 11 on-goal, while holding MSUM to just seven (two on-net) and only three in second half. Melby needed just a pair of saves to pick up the shutout victory.
First-year midfielder
Logan Nash had the best look for UMD in the second half, with Dragon senior goalkeeper Ashley Leintz punching a high shot out of air at the last second to prevent the Bulldogs from pulling ahead by two. Freshman midfielder Jessica Dallman had two shots to lead Moorhead.
