HARRIS SNAGS DOUBLE-DOUBLE, BUT WAYNE STATE PULLS AWAY IN THIRD TO DOWN UMD

The University of Minnesota Duluth fell on the road 68-52 to Wayne State (Neb.) College in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference interdivisional match-up in Wayne, Nebraska on Friday night. The Bulldogs (4-10, 4-7 NSIC) out-rebounded their NSIC South Division foe, but shot just 36.2 percent for the game (21-of-58) compared to the Wildcats' 50.0 percent (22-of-44) against UMD.

Wayne State (10-6, 7-4 NSIC) opened with a flurry against the Bulldogs, scoring four three's in the first quarter to open up a 20-12 lead after the first ten minutes. UMD splashed in a pair of threes in each of the first two quarters and drew within one at the half thanks to spreading the ball around. Six different scorers had the Bulldogs up 16-9 over the Wildcats in the second quarter, and the road team went to the locker room trailing just 29-28. Unfortunately, the home team came out of the locker room firing, opening up the score with a 12-2 run to start the second half. The score was a far-more requisite 13-10 for the rest of the quarter, but the early whirlwind of scoring from Wayne had UMD looking up at a 15-point deficit headed to the final quarter.

While the Bulldogs opened up the fourth quarter with a 6-2 run, the teams would go back-and-forth down the stretch, giving UMD little chance to scratch back into the game. Junior center Allyson Harris finished with a double-double, grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds while scoring 13 points for the Bulldogs. Freshman guard Sammy Kozlowski had nine points and six rebounds, while sophomore forward Ayo Porte grabbed seven boards. Three Wildcats went into double figures scoring, led by Paige Ballinger's game-high 17.

UMD will continue on the road tomorrow afternoon as the Bulldogs travel to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to take on Augustana University. Opening tip is set for 4:00 p.m.
