HARRIS LEADS UMD TO FIRST ROAD WIN OF SEASON AT BEMIDJI'S SANFORD CENTER

The University of MInnesota Duluth picked up its first road victory of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season, finishing out a season sweep of Bemidji State University with a 63-55 victory over its North Division rival on Saturday afternoon. UMD (4-8. 4-5 NSIC) jumped out to a second quarter lead and held off the Beavers the rest of the way in Bemidji's Sanford Center.

A relatively quiet opening quarter by both teams gave way to a 10-4 Bulldog lead as UMD scored the final three buckets of the period. The road team would run off nine straight points in the second quarter, turning a 12-9 edge into 21-9 but Bemidji State (5-8, 1-8 NSIC) would turn it around thanks to a big three by Aimee Pelzer and 9-of-10 points to pull back within five, an edge that the Bulldogs took to the locker room at 27-22.

UMD extended its lead out to nine early in the third quarter, but the Beavers scraped back in with another run, scoring 7-of-9 points, but UMD answered with seven points before the end of the period including a three by junior forward Kenzie Kane that gave them an eight-point advantage headed to the final 10 minutes. Unsurprisingly after the first three periods, Bemidji State made a run to keep the game interesting. Scoring 10-of-12 points including a pair of three pointers by Pelzer, Bemidji State pulled within two forcing a timeout from head coach Mandy Pearson with 4:28 left on the clock. The Beavers continued to scrape closer, pulling within two but a lay-up and-one from sophomore forward anna Monke gave UMD some room to breathe. Senior guard Taylor Dillinger would score seven points at the charity stripe to close out the game for the Bulldogs.

Junior center Allyson Harris led the Bulldogs offense, scoring 19 points on 8-of-14 from the floor, grabbing nine defensive rebounds on the way to a double-double with 10 boards. Dillinger and Monke each added nine points in a start while sophomore forward Ayo Porte and first-year forward Emma Boehm each scored six points off the bench. Sophomore guard Sierra Senske had a team-high 17 for the Beavers while Pelzer added 12.

UMD will continue on the road tomorrow afternoon as the Bulldogs face off with the University of Minnesota Crookston. Opening tip is set for 1:00 p.m. in Crookston.
