BULLDOGS USHER IN NEW YEAR AT SATURDAY'S NORTHWEST OPEN

With spring semester not starting until this Wednesday, a select number of University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs ushered in 2016 Saturday by competing in the University of Minnesota Northwest Open.

Among those with noteworthy finishes for the Bulldogs were junior Brian Lee, who was fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 54'-10.25", and senior James Ryan in the long jump (a personal-best leap of 21'-03.50", good for fifth place). UMD placed 5-6-7 in the 200-meter dash event with sophomore Nick Beattie (23.25), Connor Behm (23.52) and Ryan (23.69) doing the honors. In addition, junior Ben Hanson took sixth in the 800-meter run (1:59.17, an indoor collegiate best) and sophomore Cody Sedbrook was second out of six competitors in the 3,000-meter race (a lifetime-best clocking of 8:44.94)

The Bulldogs will return to the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse next Saturday (Jan. 16) for the Minnesota Open.
