The University of Minnesota Duluth found out tonight why No. 13 Minot State is the top-ranked team in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
The Beavers (8-1; 7-0 NSIC) high-powered offense showed their dominance once again by beating the Bulldogs (5-4-2; 3-3-2 NSIC) 3-0 Friday night at Malosky Stadium.Â
Senior forward Chloe Melton put Minot State ahead 1-0 with her fifth goal of the season at 35:21. In the first half, the Beavers outshot the Bulldogs 11-4. Sophomore defender
Lizzy Fontes was responsible for three of the four shots. Sophomore goalkeeper
Sisley Ng tied a career high in saves (10). Ng collected seven saves in the first half alone. UMD finished with just three shots in the second half, all of which came within the last four minutes of the game.Â
Melton started the second half by putting Minot State up 2-0 at 46:30. Senior forward Ninfa Ramirez collected her NSIC leading 12th goal of the season at 64:07 and is second in points (26), behind only Northern State University senior forward Anna Bondy (28). UMD falls to 1-4 all time against Minot State, and have lost the last three.
"I think we can really just understand that whichever team comes out and wants it more is gonna win the match," junior defender
Skye Finley said. "All the teams in this conference are so close and we easily could have won this game, but it just didn't happen tonight."
The Bulldogs will hit the road to play U-Mary (1-6-2; 1-5-1 NSIC) Sunday (Oct. 9th) at 1 p.m.
