The University of Minnesota Duluth and the University of Mary battled to a 1-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tie Sunday afternoon in Bismarck, N.D.
The Bulldogs (5-4-3 overall; 3-3-3 NSIC) found themselves in double overtime for third time already in 2016, this time against a Marauder club (1-6-3; 1-5-2 NSIC) that is 0-2-2 in its last four matches.
Junior goalkeeper
Jordan Melby started in goal for the Bulldogs. Melby made her first appearance since Sept. 16, 2016, making a season-high seven saves in the process. Senior midfielder Michelle McGeary put the Marauders up early with her third goal of the season at 10:26 of the first half. Sophomore forward
Destiny Schmitz got the equalizer for UMD in the second half off a pass from junior defender
Skye Finley, garnering her second goal of the season at 51:17. Finley collected her team-high ninth point of the season.
Senior forward
Kailey Beatt would lead all players in shots (5). Seven different Bulldogs would collect a shot in the game. UMD set a new season high itself, with 13 corners taken. The Bulldogs got of 17 shots, and put seven of them on goal.
UMD will face the University of Sioux Falls (2-8-2; 2-6-1 NSIC) this Saturday (Oct. 15) at 11 a.m. The Cougars are 0-3-1 in their last four games, with their last win coming against Concordia University-St. Paul on Sept. 25 (1-0 victory).
