The University of Minnesota Duluth will put a start to its 2016 season on Saturday afternoon as they take on Michigan Tech University at Romano Gymnasium.
Head coach
Mandy Pearson returns to the UMD bench for her second season, and brings plenty of experienced players to lead the Bulldogs. Four starters from last year's team are back for another season, along with the return of senior forward
Taylor Meyer, who missed last season with an injury. Senior center
Allyson Harris netted 13.0 points per game last season to lead the Bulldogs and will look to provide a consistent offensive threat in the paint this year as well. Senior forward
Kenzie Kane will provide a scoring option as well as she led the team in three pointers last season while averaging 9.3 points per game.
The Bulldogs unofficialy opened their season last saturday, defeating Bethel University 73-42. Freshman forward
Josie Buckley stood out in her first game as a member of UMD, knocking down four of seven shots to lead the team with 13 points while adding five rebounds. Along with Buckley, two other Bulldogs notched double-digit points -- sophomore guards
Sammy Kozlowski and
Emma Boehm. UMD outplayed Bethel in nearly every statistical category, including shooting 43.9% while holding the Royals to just 29.2%.
