NO. 1 BULLDOGS PUT THE CLAMPS ON WESTERN MICHIGAN TO SPLIT WEEKEND SERIES

It's taken Hunter Miska just nine games to accomplish something most collegiate goaltenders fail to do in an entire career -- post three shut outs.

The University of Minnesota Duluth rookie turned aside all 30 shots Western Michigan University sent his way in backstopping the No. 1 Bulldogs to a 2-0 victory Saturday night at AMSOIL Arena. He got all the offensive support he needed from senior left winger Alex Iafallo, who scored once in the first period and helped set up Kyle Osterberg's second-period goal. UMD, which was derailed 4-3 by the Broncos on Friday, hiked its overall record to 8-2-2 and remained atop of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference standings at 5-1-0-0.

"It was a good game and a good response by our team," said UMD head coach Scott Sandelin. "I thought we were much better tonight in a lot of areas. Our compete level was higher, but it needed to me because Western is a good hockey team."

Both Bulldog goals came on the power play as UMD went 2-for-8 with the man advantage. Iafallo picked up his team-leading eighth goal of the season with 5:16 to go before the intermission when he went to the backhand to redirect in a shot. Midway through the second period, Osterberg took a cross-ice feed from senior defenseman Carson Soucy and buried a one-timer from the lower edge of the right faceoff circle. Iafallo and Soucy both extended their career-high scoring streaks to six games.

UMD,which visits the University of Nebraska Omaha next Friday and Saturday night before taking the next two weeks off, won't return to AMSOIL Arena until Dec. 16.
