The University of Minnesota Duluth's season drew a close on Wednesday afternoon, but four Bulldogs were announced to All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honors on Thursday afternoon.
Junior defender and team captain
Skye Finley earned a spot on the All-NSIC Third Team following a standout season on the field. Finley led all UMD players goals (5), assists (4), points (14), and shots on goal (26). Finley started 19 of 19 games in the 2016 campaign - marking the second straight season she has started every game. The Forest Lake, Minn. native was named an All-NSIC Honorable Mention following the 2015 season.
Three UMD players were recognized as All-NSIC Honorable Mentions -- senior midfielder
Kailey Beatt, sophomore midfielder
Laura Edgren, and sophomore defender
Lizzy Fontes. Beatt closes a phenomenal career with a seven point season, capping off her four seasons with 10 goals and 23 points. Fontes netted her first collegiate goal earlier in the season, concluding the year with a pair of goals and assists to go with 11 shots on goal. Edgren, a Apple Valley, Minn. native, tallied three assists in while starting every game for the Bulldogs.
UMD held opponents to just 1.16 goals per game this season -- its lowest output since the 2013 season. The Bulldogs ended their season with a record of 8-6-5 (6-4-5 NSIC), good for a fifth place conference finish.
