WILSON, BULLDOGS SURGE PAST MARY WITH HOT SECOND HALF

Backed by a career-high 24 points from junior forward Jake Wilson, the University of Minnesota Duluth picked up its second Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory of 2016, downing the University of Mary 86-84.

Beginning at the 9:04 mark of the second half, Wilson scored 13 of 14 points for UMD over the next five minutes. The Zimmerman, Minn. native also added five rebounds and three assists in 18 minutes of action.

Freshmen Logan Rohrscheib, Luke Harris, and Brandon Myer also significantly contributed offensively, scoring 17, 13, and 11 points, respectively. Myer tacked on seven rebounds and five assists, both UMD highs.

The Bulldogs faced a deficit for a majority of the night, but grabbed their first lead with just 10:14 remaining. UMD connected on an impressive 17 of 27 from the field (63.0 percent) in the second half, including 14 points from the charity stripe.

The Marauders were able to outshoot the Bulldogs, 56.4 percent to UMD's 50.0 percent, but it was the three-point ball that was too much for Mary to overcome. After hitting just one of 14 from beyond the arc in the first half, UMD knocked down nine of 15 in the second half, good for 60.0 percent.

The Bulldogs looked to have the game locked up, holding an 82-75 lead with 45 seconds to play, but Mary used a UMD turnover and missed free throw to quickly cut the deficit to just one point at 83-82. However, the Bulldogs never surrendered the lead in the final two minutes, eventually squeaking out an 86-84 win after three late free throws.

UMD returns to Romano Gymnasium tomorrow night as they play host to Minot State University at 6 p.m.
