The University of Minnesota Duluth bested the University of Mary, 85-73, Friday evening. The Bulldogs posted a number of season-highs in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match-up.
UMD (6-4; 5-2 NSIC)Â found its shooting rhythm against U-Mary (8-8; 2-6 NSIC) as it shot a season-best 54.2 percent (26-48) from the floor and 59.1 percent (13-22) from beyond the arc. Its 13 three-point conversions match a school record (multiple occasions). The Bulldogs also hit a season-high 20 free throws on 24 attempts (83.3 percent). Coming into tonight's game, UMD shot 70.6 percent from the line, averaging just under nine FT made per game.Â
After falling behind 23-13 in the first quarter, UMD stormed back in the second -- scoring 24 points while holding U-Mary to a mere seven. The 17 point differential is the most lopsided quarter thus far for the Bulldogs. UMD used a 19-3 run in the final 8:13 of the half to jump-start its offense. U-Mary didn't score once in the final 5:12 of the first half.Â
Sophomore guard
Sammy Kozlowski boosted her stat sheet, scoring a career-high 21 points while going a perfect 8-8 from the line. Kozlowski also tied a career-high in three-pointers, going 3-4 from deep, and tied a season-high with four assists. Three other Bulldogs reached double-digits in the game including senior forward
Kenzie Kane with 11, freshman forwards
Josie Buckley with 16 and
Katie Stark with 13. Stark went a perfect 5-5 on the night which included going 3-3 from three-point range.
UMD will take on Minot State University (3-10; 1-6 NSIC) Saturday (Dec. 31) in a New Year's Eve bout. The Beavers captured their first NSICÂ win of the season against the St. Cloud State University Huskies on Friday night.
