NO. 3 BULLDOGS BLANK MINNESOTA STATE 3-0 FOR FIFTH CONSECUTIVE WIN

The winning streaks keep piling up for the Bulldogs.

With a 3-0 win over Minnesota Stat University, Mankato Friday night at Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato, Minn., the No. 3 University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team extended both its current win streak to five games and its impressive victory span over the Mavericks.  UMD has now defeated MSU in 16-consecutive outings dating back to the 2012-13 season.

The Bulldogs broke a scoreless game wide open midway through the second period on Ashleigh Brykaliuk's 12th goal of the year at 9:07.  29 seconds later, senior blueliner Sidney Morin stretched out her career-long scoring streak with her third goal over a six-game to give UMD a 2-0 lead.

UMD put as many shots on Maverick goaltender Brianna Quade in the final stanza (18-6) as it did in the first two periods combined (18-8), and the result was a third goal for the Bulldogs.  Rookie forward Brooklynn Schugel scored her second goal in as many games, burying a loose puck in the MSU crease at 7:24 for the 3-0 advantage.  It was all the offense Bulldog netminder Maddie Rooney -- who made 14 saves -- needed to earn her third shutout of the season and fifth of her career.

Quade made a total of 33 saves for the Mavericks, who fall to 4-13-2 overall and 2-12-1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Bulldogs improve to 13-3-3 overall and 10-3-2 in the WCHA and will wrap up the 2016 portion of their season tomorrow afternoon with MSU at 3:07 p.m.
