The University of Minnesota Duluth wrapped up its recent road trip on a sour note with a 5-0 loss to Minnesota State University-Mankato.
The Bulldogs, now 2-2-2 overall, remain winless in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play (0-2-1) after suffering their most lopsided setback of the season.
UMD allowed a season high in both goals (5) and shots on goal (9). The Bulldogs quickly found themselves down 4-0 in just the first 20 minutes of the game thanks to the high-powered offense of the Mavericks (2-2-1; 1-1-0 NSIC). Those four goals came off of just six shots to begin the game. Freshman forward Taylor Kenealy would finish the game with her first career hat-trick for Minnesota State-Mankato, finding the back of the net on all three of her shots. Kenealy would collect her first two goals within three minutes of one another in the first half. Sophomore goalkeeper
Sisley Ng tallied up four saves in the loss. Six different Bulldogs would collect a shot, but UMD would end the game with a new season low for shots on goal (3).
UMD has now dropped eight straight games to the Mavericks, last finding a win on Oct, 30, 2011.
The Bulldogs will look to rebound against Minnesota State University-Moorhead (2-3; 1-2 NSIC) and get that elusive first NSIC victory of 2016 this Friday night (Sept. 23) at James S. Malosky Stadium.
