FOUR BULLDOGS HIT DOUBLE DIGITS IN 73-49 CLOBBERING OF WISCONSIN-PARKSIDE

The University of Minnesota Duluth women's basketball team started the season on a high-note, with a 73-49 clobbering of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. It's the Bulldogs first season opening win since the 2013-14 season.

UMD (1-0) held UWP (1-6) to a season-low in both points and shooting percentage (22.9 percent). The Bulldogs limited the Rangers to just 14 points in the second half alone.

Junior guard Sammy Kozlowski and freshman guard Ann Simonet and paced UMD with 14 points apiece, while junior guard Emma Boehm (11) and freshman forward Sarah Grow (12) also recorded double-digit performances. Grow would add a game-high 13 rebounds to record a double-double in her collegiate debut. All five freshmen - guard Maizie Deihl, Grow, forward Payton Kahl, Simonet, and forward Jordyn Thomas - would go on to make their collegiate debut. The newest additions collectively shot 13-30 (43.3 percent) from the floor.

The Bulldogs' 74 field goal attempts were their most in a game since they recorded 80 against the University of Mary on Jan. 24, 2015. UMD, a viable three-point shooting team a season ago (37 percent), struggled to knock down the deep ball this afternoon. The Bulldogs managed to connect on a mere 7-25 (28 percent) shots from long range, but held the Rangers to 6-28 (21 percent) shooting from deep.

The Bulldogs will take on the Michigan Tech Huskies (4-0) of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Monday (Nov. 20) at 5 p.m CST. UMD holds a 30-21 advantage all-time against MTU.

UMD will play its first game at home on Wednesday (Nov. 22) against Lake Superior State (0-1) at 5:30 p.m.
