The University of Minnesota Duluth defeated the University of Mary 86-84 in the first matchup between the two schools, but it was the Marauders that imposed their revenge on Saturday evening.
UMD scored just two points in the opening 8:44, as Mary quickly jumped out to a 13-2 lead with 11:16 remaining and would lead the remainder of the night. Seven Bulldogs notched points in the opening half on their way to a 38-21 deficit at halftime. Senior forward
Charles Benson picked up six points to lead UMD in addition to adding a pair of rebounds. For the Marauders, senior guard Damonta Henry scored 18 first half points on 7-for-12 from the floor, while the team shot a collective 56 percent.
The Bulldogs couldn't complete a comeback effort in the second half, never breaking within 12 points of Minot State. Freshman forward
Luke Harris and sophomore guard
Cody Tomlinson put together efficient offensive performances in the final 20 minutes, scoring 13 and 10 points respectively. UMD outscored Mary 45-43 in the second half behind a 50 percent field goal percentage.
In total, Harris paced all Bulldogs in scoring, concluding the night with 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting. Tomlinson topped the 50 percent mark from the field, scoring 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting. Junior forward
Robert Harris picked up a late bucket and free throws, ending the night with a career-high four points in three minutes of action. Henry would finish with 27 points for Mary.
UMD shot just 39.3 percent from the field while the Marauders put out an efficient 56.1 percent performance. The Bulldogs outscore U-Mary 32-20 in bench production, while UMD also notched 22 points off turnovers.
The Bulldogs will cap off the regular season next weekend with a pair of home games against Northern State University and Minnesota State University, Moorhead.
