THREE-POINT BARRAGE PUSHES NORTHERN STATE PAST BULLDOGS

Romano Gymnasium had the shooter's touch Friday night, as the University of Minnesota Duluth and Northern State University traded offensive punches all night, ultimately resulting in a 93-80 victory for the Wolves.

UMD coasted to a 51.8 percentage from the floor (29-for-56), but was one-upped from three-point range by NSU. The Wolves connected on 15-of-28 (53.6 percent) from downtown, highlighted by seven made three-pointers by from senior guard Mack Arvidson, who finished with 21 points. For the Bulldogs, a trio of freshman led the way in scoring -- forward Luke Harris (22), guard Logan Rohrscheib (16), and forward Brandon Myer (15). Rohrsheib scored 12 of his points from the three-point line, while Myer picked up seven free throws.

Neither team played careless with the basketball, as they combined for just 15 turnovers (UMD 9, NSU 6). The Wolves grabbed a significant advantage from the charity stripe, converting on 18-of-20 compared to the Bulldogs' 14-for-21.

Northern State jumped ahead quickly, making its first five baskets including four from the three-point line to grab a 14-2 advantage at the 17:23 mark. UMD responded with a 13-2 run of its own midway through the half, cutting the lead to 28-23 with just over eight minutes to play. Junior center Carter Evans rattled home a jumper with seconds to play in the period, aiding the Wolves to a 49-37 lead at the break.

The second half proved to be much of the same story, with both teams finding success from the floor. UMD shot 53.6 percent in the final 20 minutes as opposed to 48.4 percent from Northern State. With 15:14 remaining, the Bulldogs would cut the deficit to just six points at 56-50 after a pair of free throws from Myer, but would not inch any closer the remainder of the game. The Wolves extended their lead to as many as 19 points down the stretch before capturing a 13 point victory.

UMD will return to Romano Gymnasium tomorrow night at 6 p.m. to cap off the regular season. Senior forward Charles Benson, who scored eight points against NSU, will be recognized before the game as the Bulldogs' lone senior on Senior Night.
