With the 2016-17 regular season coming to an end, the University of Minnesota Duluth was unable to come away with a win against Northern State University. In their rematch game, the Bulldogs fell 60-57 to the Wolves.
UMD (13-12 overall; 11-10 NSIC) held NSU to just seven points in the second quarter and took a 28-24 lead into the half. But the Wolves worked the boards and out-rebounded the Bulldogs 23-8 in the second half to go along with their six second-chance points in the fourth quarter.
Coming off its worst shooting performance of the season, UMD struggled early going 4-of-15 (26.7 percent) in the first quarter. After missing the previous two games, senior forward
Kenzie Kane jumped out to a strong start, leading the Bulldogs with 10 first half points. Sophomore guard
Sammy Kozlowski led the team with 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting while bringing down two rebounds, two steals and adding an assist in the process.Â
Junior center Miranda Ristau, who ranks first in shooting percentage and fifth in points per game in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, led all players with 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Senior forward Paige Waytashek and freshman guard Brianna Kusler also reached double-digits for NSU. Kusler would fall just one rebound short of a double-double (11 points and nine rebounds).Â
The Bulldogs will wrap up their regular season against a tough No. 13 Minnesota State University, Moorhead team. MSUM (22-3; 19-2 NSIC) is riding a five-game win-steak and ranks at the top of the NSICÂ standings.Â
