The University of Minnesota Duluth took its show on the road for the first time in the young 2017 season and went 1-1 in a pair of non-conference matches at the University of Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center.
Following a 6-3 afternoon setback to the University of Northwestern, UMD rebounded by downing St. Catherine University 5-4 for its first victory of the year. Senior co-captain
Drew DeCorsey (No. 2) and freshman
Megan Anderson (No. 3) were the lone Bulldogs to post two singles victories with DeCorsey's triumph versus Northwestern coming via a forfeit.
Elsa Erickson prevailed at No. 5 singles (in a tiebreaker) in the Northwestern loss while
Macey Tellijohn did likewise against St. Catherine. Anderson sports a perfect 3-0 singles records thus far in 2017 while DeCorsey is 2-0.
In the six doubles events Saturday, UMD got both of their two wins in the St. Catherine match -- DeCorsey and Anderson at No. 2 and Erickson and Tellijohn at No. 3.
The Bulldogs (1-2) will open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play with a Friday night clash against Minnesota State University-Moorhead in Duluth before taking on the University of Mary the following day in Virginia, Minn.
