The Western Collegiate Hockey Association's last Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season wasn't ever much of a contest.
University of Minnesota Duluth sophomore goaltender
Maddie Rooney earned her fourth WCHA weekly honor Tuesday, just two days after the Andover, Minn. native backstopped the No. 3 Bulldogs with a WCHA Final Face-Off tournament record 112 saves in two games.  The first player ever to be named the Most Outstanding Player from the non-winning team, Rooney helped the Bulldogs secure a 2-1 double-overtime win against the University of Minnesota Saturday in the semifinal game, posting a UMD record 62 shots in the contest.  Rooney then turned in a 50 save performance 19 hours later in a 4-1 loss to the top-ranked University of Wisconsin in the final. Overall, Rooney made 112 saves on 117 shots, posted a .957 saves percentage and played a whopping 151:29 minutes. Rooney, who became UMD's sixth-ever WCHA Most Outstanding Player, was also named to the All-Tournament team, along with
Lara Stalder and
Sidney Morin.
