Box Score 2 Scoring was at a premium on Saturday afternoon for the University of Minnesota Duluth against Augustana (S.D.) University, as the two teams concluded a four-game series in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Vikings (24-15, 18-6 NSIC) held down the Bulldogs (16-18, 11-11 NSIC) for a 2-0 in game one before winning game two by a 10-3 score.
AUGIE 2, UMD 0
Augustana's junior pitcher Jacob Blank (W, 8-0) was phenomenal, tossing his first career no-hitter in the seven inning matchup. Blank struck out nine as opposed to just two walks in the game.
UMD picked up an impressive pitching performance as well in the right arm of junior
Nick Dorfman (L, 0-5), who pitched all six innings and allowed just two runs. Dorfman surrendered only three hits on the afternoon while striking out seven and walking no one.
The Vikings tacked on the first run of the game in the second inning on a solo homer by junior outfielder Zach Reeg and would grab an insurance run in the fifth inning on a wild pitch.
AUGIE 10, UMD 3
The Bulldogs were able to get on the board early in the rematch, as junior outfielder
Brett Milazzo put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0 in the third inning with an RBI single to drive in junior
Colin Baumgard. UMD added another run in the fourth inning when freshman
Drew Stewart came around to score on a single by junior
Tyler Midas.
Senior southpaw
Kevin Stocke toed the rubber for the Bulldogs in game two and pitched 5.1 innings with three runs allowed, exiting the game with Augustana clinging to a 3-2 advantage.
UMD knotted up the score at three in the seventh inning on an RBI double to left field by senior catcher
Marco Lucarelli with senior shortstop
Brian Pierce crossing the plate. That would be all the Bulldogs would put on the scoreboard, as Augustana held down the visitors the final two innings. The Vikings used a big six-run eighth inning to eventually extend their lead to 10-3.
UMD used a by-committee approach in the final three innings in the mound, with six pitchers seeing action and none pitching more than 0.2 innings.
