BOHANSKI'S LATE GOAL PROPELS WINONA STATE PAST UMD

Abby Bohanski scored with 4:40 remaining to help Winona State University get past the University of Minnesota Duluth 1-0 at Altra Federal Credit Stadium in Winona, Minn. The Bulldogs carried their momentum from last week into tonight's match but were sucker punched in the gut.

They tacked on 18 shots for the game but were pressed for hard luck as Bohanski netted her second goal of the season on the Warriors' fifth shot on goal in the 86th minute. UMD, who has lost four of the last five games to the Warriors, was without its starting goalkeeper and a pair of forwards but were still able to control the pace of play and outshoot Winona State 18-14. The Bulldogs led in shots 9-7 in each half and ended up with 11 shots on goal compared to the Warriors' five.

The 11 shots on goal were the most while being shutout since Sept. 12, 2009 -- a 0-0 tie 189 games ago -- vs. St. Cloud State University.

After averaging 22.5 shots last weekend, UMD was buzzing around the Winona State end of the field. Senior forward Natalie St. Martin rifled off seven shots with four shots stopped by Warrior goalkeeper Yanel Ortiz, who stopped all 11 shots on goal by the Bulldogs. Senior defender Lizzy Fontes also had multiple shot attempts land on goal. In total, UMD had seven players tally a shot against the Warriors.

Senior goalkeeper Carlye Wright made four saves on the night, tying her season high. Wright racked up fourth start of the season and took the heart-breaking losing decision.

The Bulldogs have a day off before getting back on the pitch Sunday afternoon with another Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference road contest, this time versus Upper Iowa University.
