The road woes continues again on Sunday afternoon.
The University of Minnesota Duluth suffered another late-game dagger, this time against Upper Iowa University in a 1-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference defeat in Fayette, Iowa at Pattison Field. Katie Samuels broke open the scoreless game at the 78:02 mark and Natalie Rudrud was able to hold off the Bulldogs to lift the Peacocks to their third win of the year. UMD falls to 5-8-1 overall and 4-6-1 in the NSIC while the Peacocks move to 3-9-2 and 2-7-2 in the NSIC.
The Bulldogs are 3-7 on the road this season, their worst record away from James S. Malosky Stadium.
UMD held the advantage with 16 shots to Upper Iowa's 13 and in corner kicks 8-2. After a productive last weekend at home with four goals on 46 shots, the Bulldogs leave empty handed on the scoresheet with 34 shots. Senior forward
Natalie St. Martin and junior midfielder
Nan Glinsek each piled up a pair of shots on goal with St. Martin racking up a game-high five shots. Junior defender
Mikayla Iaquinto racked up three shots and drilled a lower dribbling shot that rang off the near post.
Samuels pooched her game-winning goal over the head of senior goalkeeper
Carlye Wright. Samuels' fourth goal of the season sealed up and over everyone including the jumping grasp of Wright, who made a season-high five saves.
Luckily, UMD returns home for three straight home matches at Malosky Stadium the next 12 days. The Bulldogs host Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday, Oct. 19 at 6:00 p.m.
