A lot of folks got in the scoring act for the University of Minnesota Duluth in its non-conference series opener with the University of Maine Friday night.

Eight different Bulldogs picked up a goal as part of a 46-shot barrage, resulting in 8-2 triumph for No. 3 UMD at AMSOIL Arena. It marked the first time  that many UMD players scored in a game since Dec. 7, 2002 (a 12-0 Bulldog win at Bemidji State University).

Junior Nick Wolff and his defensive partner, All-American sophomore Scott Perunovich, each struck for goals for the first time this season and both added three assists for the first four-point nights of their respective careers. Wolff struck 2:51 after the opening faceoff and was UMD's first, first-period goal in five games this season. The Bulldogs (3-1-1 overall) and Maine (2-1-0) were tied at 2-2 midway through the first period before senior center Peter Krieger put the hosts up for good with 1:27 to go before the intermission.  The Bulldogs then reeled off five straight goals -- including four in the second period, ending the offensive onslaught with the lone power play tally of the night (by junior left winger Riley Tufte.

Sophomore center Justin Richards (the first of his career), senior right winger Parker Mackay and rookie right winger Tanner Laderoute also scored for the Bulldogs, who have now won three straight.

UMD outshot Maine 46-18 and held the Black Bears scoreless on all four of their power play chances. UMD junior goaltender Hunter Shepard made 16 saves while Jeremy Swayman and Stephen Mundinge combined for 38 stops.

" We built a big lead in the second period and sometimes those can be hard games, " said UMD Head Coach Scott. "But I thought our guys came out and did a pretty good job in the third.  Hopefully we can generate the same kind of offensive chances tomorrow."

The two team swill meet again on Saturday at 7:07 p.m.
