UMD CLAIMS 2-0 VICTORY OVER NORTHERN STATE

The University of Minnesota Duluth scored 92 seconds in and tacked on an insurance marker in the 51st minute to best Northern State University 2-0 Friday night at Malosky Stadium. Junior midfielder Nan Glinsek tallied her second goal of the season with the match's first shot. Later, senior midfielder Madison Carey used her head to redirect the ball pass the keeper to increase the lead and give cushion. Senior goalkeeper Sisley Ng had one of her more quiet nights in net having to only make one save for her third shutout of 2018.

The Bulldogs controlled play from the initial whistle pegging the Wolves with 21 shots, the second highest shot total of the season. Northern State struggled to garner any offensive pressure. With no room to operate, the Wolves were shutout on the shot chart in the second half after only registering three shots in the first 45 minutes. The three shots was the lowest shot total by Northern State this season and the fewest since Oct. 15, 2017 when it attempted two shots. Meanwhile, UMD plastered 11 shots in the first and followed that up with 10 more in the second half.

With the shutout, the Bulldogs improve to 4-6-1 and 3-4-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while Northern State falls to 6-4-1 and 4-3-1 in conference play.

Glinsek showed up with her best performance of her career. The Lino Lakes, Minn., native posted three points with her marker and helped out as the primary assist on the goal by Carey. She also finished with a career high six shots with three ending on goal. Glinsek is the second Bulldog -- freshman midfielder Julia Osborne -- this season to notch a goal and an assist. Glinsek has matched her sophomore offensive output of six points just 11 games into the season. On the goal by Carey, Glinsek teamed with senior defender Lizzy Fontes on a well-executed corner set piece. Fontes tapped the ball to Glinsek, who surveyed the pitch and lofted her cross into box. Carey was able to position herself with just enough room to out jump her defender and push the ball it into the net.

The Bulldogs return to the pitch Sunday afternoon to host Minnesota Sate University Moorhead at 1:00 p.m. at Malosky Stadium. The Dragons dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to St. Cloud State this afternoon.
