The University of Minnesota Duluth let a double-digit first-half lead slip away as the Bulldogs lost 64-52 to Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich., Tuesday night. The Bulldogs lead at the half 35-25 before the Wildcats adjusted and exploded for 39 points in the second half. The UMD offense stalled in the last 20 minutes, scoring only 17 points.
Isaiah Johnson, the reigning Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week netted 18 points along with his teammate Naba Echols, who also had seven rebounds.
Junior forward
Brandon Myer also knocked home 18 points but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs received their first loss of the season.
UMD has lost the last five games at the Barry Events Center. Signs pointed towards the Bulldogs knocking off Northern Michigan in Marquette for the first time since Dec. 7, 2003.
Senior forward
Sean Burns was the next leading scorer for UMD. Burns shot an effective 80 percent as he tallied 10 points. The Robbinsdale Armstrong H.S. product also pulled down a team high six rebounds in the setback.
The Bulldogs have a quick turn around as they face the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Thursday in the 139
th edition of the border battle.
