The University of Minnesota Duluth women's basketball team won their home opener against Northern Michigan 45-32, giving them their first win of the season. The Bulldogs now carry a 1-3 record on the year, while the Wildcats drop to 1-2 on the season.
UMD started the game strong and was led by senior forward Katie Stark who drained two three-pointers, scoring eight of the Bulldogs 13 first quarter points. They continued to play well in the second quarter, going into halftime with a 26-13 lead and allowing Northern Michigan to only score five points on 2-9 shooting.
The Bulldogs came out of the half a little slow on the offensive end, shooting 30.7% from the field, but their defense made up for the offensive struggles. They recorded three blocks, three steals, and only allowed NMU to shoot a 31.5% FG in the second half.
UMD finished the game shooting 34.7% (17-49) FG, and 31.8% (7-22) from beyond the arc and held Northern Michigan to 27.5% (14-51) FG and 21.4% (3-14) 3PT.
