BULLDOGS SHUTOUT BY HUSKIES TO FINISH OUT 2019 SEASON

The University of Minnesota Duluth played their final game of the 2019 season at home on a brisk Friday evening against St. Cloud State University. The Bulldogs fell to the Huskies 3-0 on Senior Day, bringing their overall record to 6-10-2 (4-9-2 NSIC). SCSU improved to 11-4-3 (10-3-2 NSIC).

The Huskies opened up scoring early in the first half after a goal from Claire Shea in the 8th minute into an open net. SCSU notched a second goal in the 21st minute, this time from Monica Majeski on a pass from Claire Shea. UMD finished the half with three total shots, two on net. SCSU would finish with five total shots, three one them being on net.

In the second half, UMD's offensive struggles continued. The Huskies scored their third goal of the day in the 74th minute after a set-up from Jenna Dominguez to Carly Ekstrom. Despite having more shots on net in the half, the Bulldogs were unable to find the back of the net, or make their way back into the game.

Six different Bulldogs would contribute to UMD's 12 total shots on net, nine of them being on goal, including a game high three shots from both sophomore defender Megan Vatne and junior forward Holly Kaboord. St. Cloud would finish with 10 total shots, seven of them being on net. UMD had six corner kicks throughout the game and three total fouls. St. Cloud State had three corner kicks and 12 fouls. Sophomore goaltender Sophie Grenz would finish the day with four total saves.

With that, UMD was unable to secure a bid into the 2019 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament.
