BULLDOGS FRUSTRATE VIKINGS TO PUSH STREAK TO FIVE IN A ROW

The University of Minnesota Duluth became the second team to win inside the Elmen Center this season.

Augustana University has been one of the best teams on its home floor in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Vikings entered Friday night 10-1 at home but they ran into a buzz saw by the Bulldogs. UMD (15-5; 14-3 NSIC) coasted to a 69-45 win over Augustana (19-7; 11-6 NSIC) to stretch its winning streak to five.

The Vikings were frustrated on both ends of the floor as the Bulldogs kept coming up with stops and finding the open woman in the normally stifling Augustana defense. UMD held Augustana to a season-low 45 points and the Bulldogs kept the Vikings under 30 percent shooting from the field, their seventh time holding opponents under that mark already in 2018-19. Offensively, UMD racked up 14 points in each quarter and also shot over 40 percent in each quarter as it shot 46.6 percent overall.

Lynsey Prosser had 22 of the Vikings' 45 points. Prosser shot 9-for-18 from the court but her teammates combined to go 6-for-44 (13.6 percent). The Vikings turned the ball over 14 times and had six shots rejected by the Bulldogs. UMD made quick work of those Augustana mishaps to take advantage of on the offensive end on the fast break and attacking the paint. The Bulldogs had a sizable advantage inside as they outscored Augustana 32-14 in the paint.

UMD attacked with four players reaching double figures. Sophomore guard Ann Simonet connected on four buckets early in the first half to give the Bulldogs the lead and extend it. Simonet finished with 12 points and a career-high eight assists. UMD relied on senior forward Emma Boehm who had the hot-shooting touch once again from outside. Boehm, the conference's leader is three-point percentage (52.5 percent), nailed four of her six triples and ended with a team-high 14 points. Sophomore forward Sarah Grow had 11 points and senior guard Sammy Kozlowski added 10.

The Bulldogs pounded the glass and ended the contest with a 47-35 edge in rebounding. Kozlowski and junior forward Kate Stark each gathered nine rebounds, setting collegiate highs for both. Stark and Grow each had three blocks a piece.

UMD returns tomorrow to wrap up the weekend with an NSIC contest against Wayne State College. First tip is schedule to start at 3:30 p.m.
