The University of Minnesota Duluth knocked off Hillsdale College and fell to the University of Indianapolis in the Bulldogs' opening day in the FPX Athletics College Spring Games in Clermont Fla. UMD topped the Chargers 4-1 in the morning session but the No. 24 Greyhounds took down the Bulldogs 2-0 Wednesday afternoon.
UMD is 44-10 all-time in the College Spring Games, where the Bulldogs' have been playing non-conference games dating back to 2013. It won its last 10 games before running into the buzz saw that was Indianapolis.
Freshman pitcher
Sam Pederson took the winning decision, her third of the season, in the victory over Hillsdale. Pederson fired all seven innings, giving up her lone run in the sixth. The North Branch, Minn., native gave up eight hits, walked three and only struck out one Charger.
Pederson excelled in the circle as she was placed in tough situations with the Bulldog defense committing five errors. Hillsdale left 12 runners on base and went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

Taylor Koehnen hopped one past the left side to increase the lead to 3-0. Koehnen rounded out the scoring in the third inning as she roped a double down the right field line to score Oberle, who collected two hits in the game. UMD ended with eight hits.
The Bulldogs were shutout in the second game as UIndy hurler Amy Kaniewski kept the UMD batters off balance. Kaniewski hurled a one-hitter and walked three batters while punching out seven batters. The Greyhounds captured the lead with a two-run home run by Taylor Danielson. UIndy scored one more unearned run in the sixth..

Hannah Bloch each compiled walks. UMD's biggest threat came in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs juiced the bases but the Greyhounds saved the lead with a diving catch in right field to perverse the shutout.
UMD (4-7) is back on the diamond tomorrow to play against Merrimack College and Purdue University Northwest. First pitch against Merrimack is set to begin at 10:45 a.m.
