The University of Minnesota Duluth couldn't keep up with third place St. Cloud State in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate clash Saturday evening, falling 6-2 at Woodside Sports Complex in Mauston, Wis.
The Bulldogs (8-22 overall and 6-14 in the NSIC) received solo home runs from senior third baseman
Eric Yachinich and rookie left fielder
Tim Pokornowski in the second and third innings. Yachinich's seconding inning homer to left field was his first of the season and sixth as a Bulldog. Pokornowski's third inning blast to left field, the first of his Bulldog career, gave UMD a 2-1 advantage.
Rece Dietrich (2-2), in his sixth start of the season, tossed 6.0 innings for the Bulldogs but was roughed up in the fifth inning when he surrendered four runs, giving the Huskies (25-6 overall; 13-4 NSIC) a three-run lead. On the day, Dietrich gave up five runs on eight hits while fanning three and issuing one walk. Senior right-hander
Alex Ferguson pitched the final two innings for the Bulldogs, giving up one run on two hits while striking out one and walking one.
